Dodo
Everything in the museum is upside down. The grand opening of a new exhibition is approaching, which will reveal to visitors the natural treasures of the distant island of Mauritius. The highlight of the exhibition is the fossilised egg of the long-extinct Dodo bird. During the ceremony, two children approach the egg unnoticed. They are tempted by the idea that the egg might hatch into something and are not at all concerned that it is as hard as a piece of rock and as cold as ice. They open the display case, reach for the egg and start to imagine what a Dodo might look like if it ever hatched. Suddenly, there's a scratching sound from inside the egg. The shell cracks.
The production of Dodo takes the audience into the fantasy world of two children - siblings who use the magic of their own imagination to bring Dodo the bird to life and try to save him from the guard and the museum director. Not only have they long forgotten what it means to dream, but they would rather see Dodo as an exhibit locked behind a display case. But Dodo belongs to Mauritius, not among the exhibits! For children, the museum becomes a place for an adventure game in which the Mauritian rainforest and dangerous animals are hidden in display cases and cabinets. Will the children be able to save Dodo from the museum guard? Can they find a new home for him?
Dodo conveys through a distinctive artistic key to the youngest viewers a plunge into the world of children's imagination and at the same time it playfully introduces the theme of extinct species and the relationship between human and nature.
The production at the Naive Theatre was prepared by the creative team of the upcoming generation of theatre artists, recent or recent graduates of Prague's Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre at the Academy of Performing Arts (KALD DAMU).
